Tourists watch buddhist monks preparing a mandala using powdered pigments. The pigment or sand is trickled through a brass funnel called a chakpur. The chakpur has indentations on one side and a rod is scraped up and down to cause a trickle of pigment. The mandala will take days to complete and will then be swept away as a symbol of the impermanence of all things.Samstangling Gompa ,Monastery, Sumur, Ladakh, Republic of India.15Sep11
